Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery
By Donald A. Yool | Year 2012 | FileType: PDF
This text is designed to support veterinary undergraduate students in the clinical years of their study, and new graduates, particularly those completing the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Professional Development Phase.
I hope it is also of value to general practitioners with an interest in small animal soft tissue surgery. The intention of the text is to provide a comprehensive overview of the common procedures and conditions encountered in general practice, to enable inexperienced clinicians to begin to develop their clinical skills in these areas. It is not intended to provide a definitive commentary on book.
There is a strong emphasis on the application of basic principles that are defined in Part I. The rest of the text is divided into anatomic regions, and the surgical diseases and their treatment relevant to each part are discussed. A small number of key procedures suitable for a new graduate to perform are described in detail and illustrated with intra-operative photographs. Sufficient information is given about common, more com-plex conditions to enable the reader to instigate supportive therapy, discuss treatment options, and consider referral. Glossary terms are defined at the start of most chapters. Each chapter has a set of learning objectives aimed at supporting veterinary undergraduate students, and a bibliography providing the key reference sources and acting as a suggested further reading list.
At the end of the text are Appendix 1 with a list of medical terminology, and Appendix 2 containing self-assessment sections covering each chapter.
Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery is a comprehensive, in-depth resource for well-referenced, current information on book. Offering detailed surgical techniques in a well-illustrated, easy-to-follow format, the book covers the full range of surgically treated diseases and syndromes, with video clips and slideshows to demonstrate surgical procedures on an accompanying DVD. Chapters are written by the leading experts in surgery, internal medicine, radiology, and critical care, presenting information based on a review of the most recent literature.
Divided into chapters by body system, each section begins with a brief review of the anatomy and physiology, with pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis described in detail. Original illustrations and clinical photographs accompany the description of surgical techniques, and an evidence-based approach is incorporated throughout. Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery is an essential reference for small animal surgeons, residents, and practitioners performing soft tissue surgery.
