The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Canine and Feline Infectious Diseases and Parasitology PDF is a quick-reference text designed mainly for clinicians, but also for students of veterinary medicine. It assumes a basic knowledge of infectious and parasitic diseases.
The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Canine and Feline Infectious Diseases and Parasitology PDF
There are several excellent texts available in infectious diseases of both cats and dogs and also many detailing the parasites of these species. The infectious disease texts offer detailed information regarding the epidemiology and pathophysiology of disease, clinical manifestations, diagnostic techniques, pathology, and therapeutic regimens, and most parasitology texts detail life cycles, parasite morphology, and pathology, with little emphasis on diagnosis and therapy.
Although these are e.”excellent reference texts with a place in veterinary Libraries and on the shelves of the clinical veterinarian, there are few if any texts that include both infectious and parasitic diseases in one volume. This text was written to make clinically relevant information on both infectious and parasitic diseases of cats and dogs available for quick reference in the workplace.
The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Canine and feline infectious Diseases and Parasitology is designed to help the reader recognize various infectious and parasitic diseases common in North America and identify appropriate diagnostic tests to perform. Drug dosages have been presented in table formal to allow the busy clinician to access therapeutic information quickly between appointments.
Many of the chapters have been adapted from the Infectious Disease section of the third edition of The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult Canine and Feline, for which I served as section editor. Chapters from other sections in that text were also used, as were several from The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Small Animal Dermatology, by Karen Helton Rhodes. Most of the parasitology chapters are unique to this book and include diagnostic images provided by my friend, colleague, and coeditor, Dr. Dwight Bowman.
In most cases, color images emphasizing the major diagnostic feature of the disease are presented. The key diagnostic feature itself, where applicable, is highlighted in blue in the text. Where there are a number of drugs involved in treating the disease, the dosage, route of administration, and therapy length are presented in table format for quick reference. A short list of Suggested Readings at the end of each chapter offers the reader the current or most important references for the topic. This reference List is by no means exhaustive.
