Skin Diseases of the Dog and Cat: Clinical and Histopathologic Diagnosis

Skin diseases of the dog and cat clinical and histopathologic diagnosis

I don’t care much for how the book is organized, especially the index. For example, if you don’t know what a disease is called (and new pathology residents will not know at least half of the conditions described in this book) you will have a really hard time looking up the information by the skin changes. On more than one occasion I found myself flipping through the pictures until I found something like my specimen and and then go from there to get the diagnosis. On the other hand, this book is easy to read and the authors take time to explain how to differentiate x from y and they even give you a list of differentials for the condition.

The number of black and white photos are also disappointing for a 2005 book. The book is expensive (overpriced in my opinion). A 2005 book should at have online consultation or a CD version of the book for computer use. It would be so easy for the publishers to put color photos on CD if printing in color is not cost effective.

As in the first book, inflammatory diseases are grouped by histologic pattern. However, since histopathologic classification usually reflects changes observed clinically, clinically relevant groupings often result. The authors have striven to present information in a diagnostically relevant way for clinicians and pathologists alike. Etiopathogenesis (where known), clinical features, and the histopathologic lesions are described for each disease; methods of optimal biopsy are included for inflammatory diseases as well.
