Manual of Reptiles 3rd Edition pdf

This Manual of Reptiles 3rd edition is another milestone in the commitment of the Manual to exotic species medicine and builds on the previous edition with some considerable changes and updates. Reptile medicine and surgery is now being accepted as a mainstream discipline within the veterinary world, reflected in the growing number of textbooks covering the discipline and also the appearance of postgraduate qualifications which have appeared in Europe and the USA.

The Manual of Reptiles 3rd edition covers all aspects of treating reptile patients, including diagnosis, surgical techniques and euthanasia.

  • Chapter dedicated to anatomy and physiology
  • A consideration of the reptile pet trade
  • Revised and expanded appendices
  • New chapters on crocodilians and sea turtles

This new Manual of Reptiles 3rd edition retains the same structure as previously and is divided into three main parts:

Part one focuses on husbandry aspects including captive maintenance and nutrition and sees the addition of a new chapter on reptile anatomy and physiology. We have elected also to keep the chapter on breeding and neonatal care, and despite the sad loss of our colleague Dr Kevin Wright, this chapter has been updated by Dr Paul Raiti and we keep Dr Wright’s name on the chapter in memoriam.

Part two contains all of the details necessary to carry out successful clinical examination, anaesthesia, surgery (including endoscopy), treatment (including emergency and critical care), non-invasive imaging, laboratory testing, clinical and post-mortem examination as well as humane euthanasia. Extensive use is made of new images in chapters covering surgery, endoscopy and diagnostic imaging in particular.

Part three addresses disease by organ system and, as before, chapters covering parasitology and infectious disease provide a different perspective which helps to unify the text and introduce emerging diseases.

Additionally, there is a new chapter on marine turtle rehabilitation as well as updates on the handling of venomous species and also a chapter dedicated to crocodilians.
