Rapid Review of ECG Interpretation in Small Animal Practice 2nd Edition

Rapid review of ecg interpretation in small animal practice 2nd edition

Welcome to the second edition, which builds upon the user-friendly format of the first edition and includes new material that will further aid practitioners in their quest to better interpret the electrocardiogram (ECG). This new edition contains additional material regarding acquisition of the ECG, including color figures detailing lead placement and patient positioning.

Nothing improves ECG skills better than practice, and the core of this book remains, with the extensive series of ECG cases for the reader to work through. For the second edition, 15 new ECG cases have been added to 46 cases already present in the first edition. Some of the new cases call attention to important clinical circumstances involving electrolyte disturbances, supraventricular arrhythmias, accelerated idioventricular rhythms, and atrioventricular dissociation. Another selection of new cases is geared toward readers who craved more advanced topics such as electrical cardio version and pacemaker function.

Even readers relatively new to ECG interpretation will find that exploring these more advanced concepts contributes to better understanding of the fundamentals and will improve their skills. This new edition also includes several cases undergoing ambulatory (Holter) recording and readers will have a chance to consider such data as 24-hour arrhythmia frequency and mean daily heart rates.

This new edition remains true to its roots, our desire to provide information in an appealing, accessible, and easy to use format that fits with the busy lives of veterinary practitioners. To this end, ECGs are reproduced and annotated in full color, and various figures and diagrams are drawn with an emphasis toward rapid interpretation and maximal usability. Finally, we wish to thank the many interns and residents whose cases provided many of the ECG examples we present in the book. Without their work, this book would not be possible.
