Practical Small Animal Ultrasonography Abdomen

Diagnostic imaging techniques are increasingly important in veterinary medicine. Even if in the past they required a heavy investment, the truth is they are now more affordable and present in almost every vet practice. Radiography was the first technique to arrive and ultrasonography has undoubtedly come to stay. In fact, ultrasonography may provide invaluable information to confirm presumptive diagnosis if, and only if, the clinician is able to perform and identify the normal ultrasonographic appearance of organs, is familiar with variations from normal, and knows how to interpret them. The aim of this book is to provide veterinary surgeons with a visual guide to perform abdominal ultrasonographic examination in dogs, helping them disorders and assisting with the diagnosis and treatment

This book aims to provide ultrasonographers and veterinary surgeons with simple, straightforward guidance in performing and interpreting abdominal ultrasonographic examinations of the dog and cat. It is based on 18 years of experience in training veterinary surgeons in practical abdominal ultrasound. Atlas of Equine Ultrasonography (Videos Included)

Use simple language to describe the examination of each organ and included practical suggestions on how to optimise the technique. Practical demonstration of the technique is provided by the inclusion of online video clips in the digital version of this book, with additional comprehensive instructions provided for each abdominal organ. I have included descriptions of normal ultrasonographic appearance, anatomic variations and commonly encountered abnormalities.

Although there is more than one way to scan the abdomen of a dog or a cat, I have included a technique which should appeal to most veterinary surgeons and can be performed in first-opinion practice. I would recommend reading each chapter, watching the video clips, and then practicing the technique.
