Manual of exotic pet and wildlife nursing

The number of exotic and wildlife cases presented at the veterinary practice has increased significantly in the past 10 years, with increasing expectations regarding level of care.  The nursing requirements of these less familiar species are significantly different from those of dogs and cats. This Manual provides veterinary nurses with a greater understanding of these requirements, enabling them to modify and apply their skills to these cases.

Written by veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons with expertise in this field, this Manual is practical and user-friendly, enabling the easy and direct application of theory to practice. Patient care is discussed in a logical sequence, from the initial telephone call through to consultation, admittance, hospitalization and intervention. A variety of useful tools, including husbandry questionnaires, anaesthesia record forms and a collection of client handouts are also included. An ideal resource for student and qualified veterinary nurses, as well as other members of the veterinary healthcare team. Perfect book, it covers a large variety of species. It provides important nursing considerations in relation to creating nursing care plans for these different species. It also provides some supportive client ideas to improve welfare for all animals (as a pet, hand reared or general wildlife).

The book includes a section on wound healing and management, which I found particularly useful, as it does vary at stages to what you might see at a post operative clinic etc. This is handy tool for nurses to expand their knowledge base and even start various exotic pet clinics.

This new Manual is designed to be practical and user-friendly, enabling the easy and direct application of theory to practice. The book is therefore an ideal resource for student and qualified veterinary nurses as well as other members of the veterinary healthcare team. A variety of useful tools including husbandry questionnaires, anaesthesia record forms and sample client handouts are also included, helping veterinary nurses to complete their duties easily and effectively.
