Manual of Equine Dermatology book deals exclusively with the equine dermatological problems that the clinician
Dermatology is a common problem in clinical practice and can be very frustrating, as many skin diseases look somewhat similar. Thus, busy clinicians frequently end up doing symptomatic treatment rather than actually diagnosing the cause of the problem. This type of approach, although providing quick relief in the short term, tends to fail in the long term as it does not address the actual cause of the disease.
This book is not intended to be inclusive of all skin conditions, nor is it intended to be categorized by mechanism of disease. Rather than present diseases by etiology, the chapters are focused on the diagnostic approach for various specific clinical presentations. Many images have been included to provide visual information on the variety of clinical presentations.
Tables and flow charts also have been prepared to summarize the basics of the approach to the various problems. Each chapter has useful references that can help with additional learning when readers are interested in developing a more in-depth knowledge about specific conditions. It is hoped that, after consulting this book, when presented with a dermatological case, the clinician will have a clearer idea on how to troubleshoot the problem and develop a diagnostic and treatment plan to help equine patients.
